Set up this game

Set up the game

For 2–8 players, each starting with $60,000. Choose 12, 20 or 30 rounds. Turns follow joining order. At a shared table each player uses a phone; “Everyone on this computer” shares controls in turn. New players cannot join after the start. All money, shares and businesses are fictional.

How to play

The outer track has 40 spaces: 33 properties, 4 extra-roll spaces and 3 services. The money track has 12: 6 Luck, 4 Expense and 2 Salary. Each player has an independent position on each track; completing an outer lap pays no salary.

  1. Roll the two white dice and move their total. A service costs $700; another player’s business creates a bill you must pay. Landing on “+1” gives another white-dice roll in the same turn, including if you land on another +1.
  2. After the first white roll, use the black die once. Passing or landing on $ pays $6,000. Landing on Luck or Expense applies one of that deck’s 50 cards; cards may repeat across rolls. Luck awards $0–$10,000; Expenses cost $400–$3,500. Some cards pay another player.
  3. Pay bills, use all extra white rolls and press “End turn”. Both white and black dice must have been used. A +1 never repeats the black die. Rolling does not end the turn automatically, and there is no inactivity skip.

Properties and businesses

When you land on a bank property, you can buy it at list price. If unoccupied, opening a business costs $3,000 whether you own or rent the property; buying alone opens no business. There are 20 industries with the same economic rules. Rent is 1% of list price, charged at the end of each round.

You may buy an occupied bank property or offer to buy another player’s property after landing there and paying your bill. Its owner must accept. Tenants retain their businesses and upgrades; rent goes to the new owner. Buying a business is a separate offer to its operator, from any space during your turn; it does not transfer the building. Funds are checked when offering and accepting, not reserved.

Branches, brands and upgrades

Two active businesses in one industry let you create a brand for $4,000. Each additional same-industry branch adds 25% to the branch multiplier; a brand with at least two branches multiplies bills by 1.5. Landing on your business allows one upgrade, up to level 3 and only one upgrade per turn. Each level adds 50% to the upgrade multiplier. An upgrade costs $1,500 less 8% per additional branch, capped at 40% off. Cards, services and rent are not discounted.

MonteMarket

During your turn buy or sell 1–1,000 shares per order using play money. The 50 companies and players’ brands have simulated prices changing every 15 seconds. You cannot buy your own brand’s shares. These are not real stock prices or investments. To raise cash you may also sell a property to the bank for 80% of base price or close a business for $1,500.

Scoring and winning

Ending your turn with negative cash causes bankruptcy. You can sell assets beforehand to recover. The last solvent player wins, or the highest net worth at the round limit; exact ties share victory. Net worth = cash + properties at base price + businesses ($3,000 + $1,500 per level) + portfolio. At the last round’s close, rent is charged and the game liquidates assets if needed to cover debts before choosing the winner.

Display, controllers and reconnecting

Open montelana.com/tv on the shared display and enter the room code. Each player scans the QR or visits montelana.com/join, enters a name and keeps that browser as a private controller. An invitation QR never grants control over another player. The host starts the game; the public display does not take a seat. Keep the same session to reconnect. There are no saved games or email recovery; tables expire after 24 hours without activity. Opening this manual in another tab does not pause timers.
