Cuban Dominoes

More tiles and more possibilities with double nine. Coordinate with a partner or compete individually in the five- or six-player variants. No drawing: manage your hand and anticipate a blocked table to reach the target.

Rules for the Montelana web version.

Set up this game

Set up the game

Double nine: 55 tiles. Four partners receive 10 each; five individual players receive 9; six receive 8. No drawing: undealt tiles stay out of the hand. Without a legal move, passing is automatic after 3 seconds.

Partners are seats 1 + 3 against 2 + 4. First to the chosen target of 100, 150 or 200 points wins.

How to play

  1. Open the first hand with the highest double actually dealt; without doubles, use the highest total. Never wait for an undealt double.
  2. Play an owned tile matching either end. Tapping a tile with one legal end plays it immediately; with two legal ends, choose left or right. You cannot pass when you have a legal move.

Scoring and winning

The first player to empty their hand wins it. A full round of passes blocks the hand. Partners combine their remaining pips to compare blocked hands.

A tie for lowest total awards no points and rotates the opener. Otherwise the winner opens the next hand with any tile. After a partnered block, the winning partner with fewer pips opens.

Going out scores opponents’ hands. A blocked winner scores every remaining hand, including their own side. Played and undealt tiles do not count.

Timers and continuity

The target is 100, 150 or 200 points. Turns last 15 seconds by default, with 30/60 options. At expiry the server plays a legal tile or draws/passes. The next hand starts after 15 seconds; the host can start it earlier.

Display, controllers and reconnecting

Open montelana.com/tv on the shared display and enter the room code. Each player scans the QR or visits montelana.com/join, enters a name and keeps that browser as a private controller. An invitation QR never grants control over another player. The host starts the game; the public display does not take a seat. Keep the same session to reconnect. There are no saved games or email recovery; tables expire after 24 hours without activity. Opening this manual in another tab does not pause timers.
